Charity Carwash For Syria

Syria’s civil war is the worst humanitarian crisis of our time. Half the country’s pre-war population — more than 11 million people — have been killed or forced to flee their homes. Families are struggling to survive inside Syria, or make a new home in neighboring countries. Others are risking their lives on the way to Europe, hoping to find acceptance and opportunity. And harsh winters and hot summers make life as a refugee even more difficult. At times, the effects of the conflict can seem overwhelming. But one fact is simple: millions of Syrians need our help. According to the U.N., it will take £5 billion to meet the urgent needs of the most vulnerable Syrians in 2016

Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said:

"The believer's shade on the Day of Resurrection will be his charity."

(Al-Tirmidhi, Hadith 604)

The Story of Eesa Ibn Maryam (A.S)

The aim of this project is not only to revive this great tradition of story telling, but also to educate and tackle some of the misconceptions about the Prophet Eesa (A.S) that the youth face today.

This show will consist of Story-telling and as a treat for the children the session will include an exclusive shadow Puppet show! Yes you read right! For the first time ever in SHEFFIELD a shadow puppet show based on Eesa Ibn Maryam (A.S).

Story-telling
Storytelling is a very effective method of tarbiyah. The Qur' an includes many stories that are used as means and ways of tarbiyah for Muslims. Amongst these stories is that of the Prophets. In them, Allah describes different incidents and events that Prophets have experienced throughout their lives. Children are born into a media-soaked environment today. They have numerous television channels and entertainment programs to get them engaged with entertainment. Parents switch on cartoon channels and keep children before them for hours. But, many a times they forget the disadvantages, such fast-paced visual media bring onto kids. Television cartoons and other entertainment programs block the mental development of kids to greater extends.

Shadow Puppetry Shadow play or also known as shadow puppetry is an ancient form of storytelling and entertainment which uses flat articulated figures to create cut-out figures which are held between a source of light and a translucent screen or scrim. Shadow play is popular in various cultures; currently there are more than 20 countries known to have shadow show troupes. Shadow play is an old tradition and it has a long history in Southeast Asia. It is a popular form of entertainment for both children and adults in many countries around the world.

Salawat with your hands - with Desert Echo Daff School

We are pleased to announce Daff workshops for women and children in partnership with Desert Echo Daff School starting on Sunday 3rd of May 2015.

Desert Echo Daff School offer a unique experience for men, women and children to learn about the classical method of playing the Daff, a traditional one sided hand drum, largely deemed permissible within Islam. Desert Echo Daff School is the UK’s leading for the promotion of traditional beats.

Allah Almighty Says:

Verily in remembrance of Allah, do hearts find rest.

(Qur'an 13:28)

The Daff lessons are not only focused on the drum as an instrument of entertainment, but as a means to ignite yearning through praise of Allah and His Beloved, Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).

As one of our contemporary scholars Shaykh Ahmad Saad eloquently stated:

Those who play the Daff (with songs of Praise) are making salawat with their hands.

Part of our mission is to revive the creative spirit within the Muslim community, and to appreciate the strong artistic heritage found within Islam. While understanding the Divine Rules placed upon us, there are also many permissible opportunities we often overlook. The Daff is one such alternative that which when played with the right intentions, alongside songs of praise, is not only a wholesome alter can also enhance our religious experience.

The Daff is a fantastic mode for encouraging expression in a permissible and wholesome manner. The tutor will teach the Daff alongside a Nasheed, Qasaid and songs of praise. In doing so, we also hope to revive the long lost tradition of Islamic poetry InshaAllah.

Alongside this, the workshops emphasise adab and discipline of instruction through which we seek to teach our students the akhlaaq that goes with presenting & expressing ourselves through art and as Muslims. For children, the workshops are a great means of focusing on a new hobby, engaging and tapping into talents and skills and having the opportunity to benefit from working in teams as well.

The Daff workshops will be offered as two options.

Option 1 : 1 x 4 hour workshop (Level 1: Part 1)

This will be focused on learning some of the history of Daff, 1 base beat, 1 base melody, and practicing with Nasheeds. This will lead up to a performance/Mawlid where students will play the Daff alongside the instructor.

Date: Sunday 3rd May 2015, 12:00pm – 4:00pm   Cost: £20

Or

Option 2  3 x 4 hour workshop (Complete Level 1)

This will be focused on learning some of the history daff, 2 base beats, 4 base melodies, mixing melodies and practicing with Nasheeds. The students will each have an opportunity to have a short, one to one, session with the instructor and will also be tested to be awarded Level 1 Certificate based on progress.
